Multi Level Marketing Currency Scheme

A North Carolina man has been found guilty on three criminal charges related to counterfeiting. Bernard von NotHaus is the creator of the Liberty Dollar, which is a silver coin intended for use as a currency in place of the US dollar.
These coins resemble and can be confused with the US currency, which led the government to claim that the marketing of the Liberty Dollar was a multi level marketing pyramid scheme. Von NotHaus deliberately told people to give Liberty Dollars as change for Federal Reserve notes, which is in direct violation of laws that prohibit the use of originally designed coins as current money. von NotHaus' problems with the government date back to 2007, when his Evansville facility was first raided by the FBI. The agency had been conducting surveillance operations since 2005 to determine the legality of the Liberty Dollar.
